These waypoints were taken during a climb of Mt.Smolikas on 10 August,2001.
The starting point was at the wood refuge hut (at 1670 meters) on the
southwest side which is reached by dirt road from Palioseli.  The trail
starts on the north side of the refuge and proceeds east up past a new
stone refuge under construction.  A short distance past the stone refuge
is a spring, SMOL01. The hike continues on a good trail up to a saddle and
then east.  The first views of Smolikas are seen here.  There is a good
view on the ridge at SMOL04.  From there the trail leads to a marker post
on a minor peak on the south side of Dragon Lake, SMOL05.  The trail then
heads east and up the west side of the mountain then moves to the north
ridge line.  The trail is good and well marked by iron posts. There is a
concrete triangulation post and radio gear at the summit which is at
2637 meters.  We took a different route down and SMOL11 is at sheep camp
that is in the canyon east of the trail coming in.  The trail heads south
and joins roads leading to the town of Padhes.  SMOL15 is at an old
church at the edge of town.

Note: Before loading this into your GPS, check that the unit is set to
the European 1950 datum and set the display to ddd.mm.ss.  The display
will then match the map "Zagori", a 1:50,000 scale map by Road Editions
of Greece.  This map was available at a shop in Papigo for 1500 Drachmas
and may be at stores in other towns in the area.
