The GPS ignores this text when loading route. These waypoints were taken on a trip along the Phillips Ridge toward Golden Hinde in Strathcona Park, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. We did not make the summit, however these points are helpful along the route to Burman Lake and would be useful for those attempting the summit of Golden Hinde or Mt.Burman. Point PHIL00 is at the car park at the end of the Westin mining area. The trailhead is up the road about 100 yards. The Phillips Ridge Trail is signed and is very good up to Arnica Lake. The sign says it is 6KM with 800 meters gain. PHIL01 is at wood platforms by the lake. The next two points are on the use trail along the ridge. PHIL04 is at a place called West Nile Camp by a small tarn. The trail goes up a steep ridge to a rocky plateau (PHIL05) and then alongside a slope to an overlook (PHIL07). Heading west the route is obscure across a barren drainage and then tops out at a highpoint (PHIL08). Then follow the ridgeline northwest. There is a descent down a chimney and a scary step. It is possible to camp below the scary step (PHIL10). The route continues to a lowpoint in the ridge where you go west down steep, forest slopes. Look for red ribbons in the forest near PHIL12. The use trail goes along the west side of unnamed lake (Burman 3) to a camp spot (PHIL13). Then the trail goes west over a ridge between a small lake and Schjelderup Lake. The trail is tough going along Schjelderup Lake. The north end has a nice camp area by a bronze plaque (PHIL14). The trail then climbs west up the ridge to PHIL15. Go north down this ridge. We camped at PHIL16 along here. It is steep down to the creek by Burman Lake. Pick up a use trail up the north side of the canyon bottom and head up to a moraine lake (PHIL19). From here you can try Golden Hinde via the southeast slope. 9/05 RLC
