This is the highest peak in the White Mountains and the high point of Apache County. BLDY00 is the trailhead at the back of the Gabaldon Campground off highway 273. Hike west and after 1/2 mile there is a trail junction. Take the trail to the right leading higher. There is a possible camping area at BLDY03. Then trail then goes under a rock face and makes a switchback heading east up to higher ground. After another switchback the trail reaches a viewpoint at BLDY06. Later cross a broad area of rock at BLDY09. There is another flat area for camping at BLDY10 then the trail will climb and make some more switchbacks. There may be snow in the area of BLDY13 to BLDY16 in the spring up to mid June. BLDY17 is a high trail junction where you turn left along the ridge to the summit. BLDY18 is a large cairn at the highpoint. Baldy Peak (BLDY19) is 1/2 mile south along the ridge. This route is 7.2 miles one-way to the north summit with a gain of 2100 feet. Allow 3 1/2 to 4 hours for the ascent and 3 to 3 1/2 hours to go down. 6/04 RLC
