The GPS ignores this text when loading route. These waypoints are from a climb of Matterhorn on July 19, 2004. From Elko, Nevada drive north on route 225 and turn east on dirt route 746 to Charleston Reservoir. Then take route 748 north to Jarbidge. After Bear Creek Summit the road will make a sharp switchback and descend steeply to the Jarbidge River. At the bottom turn right to the Pine Creek campsites (MATT00). The end of the road is at MATT01 where you should park. Follow the washed out road south from here 1.6 miles to the old trailhead(MATT02). You may have to cross the river several times. From the old trailhead follow the trail south to a fallen-down sign at Dry Gulch(MATT03). Leave the trail here and go left through brush and talus to a ridge(MATT05) that runs north to point 9224ft. shown on the map(MATT06). From here the summit is clearly in view. Head east across a saddle and then up steep slopes. The tree line ends at about MATT07. Hike on the talus up to the ridge and go right on faint use trails in the rock to the summit. This route is 8.8 miles round-trip with a total gain of 4400ft. Allow about eight hours for this hike. 7/04 RLC
