These waypoints were taken during a climb of Mt.Marcy on 27 September,
2001.  The trailhead is near Adirondak Loj which is 4.8 miles south of
state highway 73 near Lake Placid.  There is a $7.00 day use fee to park
at the trailhead.  The trail is the Van Hoevenberg trail which goes 7.4
miles southeast to the summit passing Marcy Dam on the way.  The
junctions (marked JCT) are all signed and the trail is marked with
blue disks on the trees so the route is straight forward.  This file
may be useful if attempting the peak in winter and storm conditions
make route finding difficult.  At MARC06 at 3110 feet, go right on the
hikers trail rather than use the ski trail which is not as good.  The
round-trip hiking time will be from 8 to 9 hours on this route for
strong hikers. The $7.00 fee can be avoided by starting the hike at
the South Meadows trailhead which is on a dirt road northeast of the
Adirondak Loj. To reach the South Meadows trailhead drive south
3.9 miles from highway 73 and then turn left on a good dirt road and
go about one mile to the campground and trailhead. This route is
0.7 miles longer to Marcy Dam on a good trail.
