The GPS ignores this text. This is a route file for a climb of the Sierra la Laguna highpoint which was done as a two night backpack starting February 12, 2009. The turn off the main highway is about two miles south of Todos Santos and is waypoint LG0. Follow the good dirt road about 12 miles to the trailhead and locked gate at LG1. The trail starts east desending maybe 150 ft. on a road and then goes level for almost 2 miles to its end. Here the trail turns northeast and goes up steeply to a minor crest at LG4. Then its down about 120 ft. to a stream and water source. Fill up here. There is also a camp spot here and fire ring. The trail coninues up again along a ridge and tops out at a viewpoint at LG7. Then its east to the plateau and tree cover at LG8. The trail climbs to its crest at a saddle at LG9. Then on down to LG10 where there is a shrine and camp spot in a small meadow. Down a short distance there is a larger meadow and trail junction. Water is available in both places. Go straight after the meadow through forest on down to the main meadow and Ranger Hut at LG12. Go southeast across the meadow to LG13 where the trail heads up through the forest. At the top the trail appears to continue south, but go left to LG15 and follow a fainter trail to the highpoint at LG16. There is radio gear and a fire lookout at the top. The hike up to our camp at LG10 is about 6.5 miles with about 4500 ft. of gain. From the camp it is about 5 miles round-trip to the summit with a gain of about 1100 ft. The trip should be done from late November to the end of February. Later in the spring it gets too hot. 2/09 RLC
