The GPS ignores this text when loading route. These waypoints are from a climb of Kings Peak on July 24-26, 2004. Kings Peak is usually done as a three day backpack since it is about 27 miles total round-trip from the trailhead. Start the hike from the Henrys Fork Campground north of the peak. This is reached by good dirt roads by driving south from Mountain View, Wyoming. The hike follows a good trail south along a Henrys Fork Creek to Dollar Lake. The distance to Dollar Lake is 7.5 miles with a gain of about 1400ft. Allow about 4 to 5 hours. We camped a bit beyond the lake at a small pond(KING04). Next day head south past a junction to Gunsight Pass(KING06). Descend on the south side of the pass and go right at a junction(KING07) on a short-cut trail over to Anderson Pass. This trail joins another one on a hill(KING08). Follow the trail on broad slopes just east of the summit to the pass at 12,720ft.(KING10). Then head south up a steep, rock-covered ridge to the top. From camp to the summit it is 6.1 miles one-way with a total gain of about 3500ft. The ascent takes about five hours and allow four for the return to camp. This is a really scenic area that is hit by almost daily thunderstorms during July and August. Start early for the summit and try to be off by noon to avoid afternoon storms and lightning. There is good water on summit day from small streams on the south side of Gunsight Pass. 7/04 RLC
