The GPS ignores this text when loading route. These waypoints were taken during a climb of Clark Mountain 27 November,2003 on a route starting from the north side. The trailhead is reached by taking the Excelsior Mine Road exit off Interstate 15. This is about 25 miles northeast of Baker. Go north on the paved mine road about 8.8 miles and turn right on a dirt road that follows large power lines. Follow this road for 6.2 miles and turn right (south) onto a road heading toward Clark(CLK00). Follow this road for 2.5 miles and make a sharp right turn at a junction (CLK01). A four-wheel drive vehicle may be needed from here. In a short distance make a left turn at a junction. Then follow the road until it ends at a wilderness boundary sign(CLK03). Hike south on the road until it fades out(CLK04). From here go right up the slope to a ridge(CLK05). Follow this ridge which is mostly easy going except for a rocky section at CLK06 until you reach the high point at about 7780 ft.(CLK08). From here the summit is visible and is 0.42 miles on a bearing of 109 degrees true. Descend the steep face just to the right of the ridge top and head along the ridge. Waypoint CLK09 is a low point on this ridge which has rough side-hill travel. As the ridge ends go right around a knife-edge rib coming down from the summit and climb up by a large pine tree. This point is at CLK10. Most other chutes do not work so be sure to go by this tree. Once above the tree you can make your way to a good chute that heads to the top. Close to the top turn left and go up a narrow chute to the summit. This route is 6.0 miles round-trip with a gain of 3700 feet. Allow about nine hours for the hike. 11/03 RLC
