Chemehuevi is in San Bernardino County, California, south of the town of Needles on the east side of highway 95. This route is different from the standard route used by the Desert Peaks Section. CHM00 is the turn off highway 95 on a power line road going southeast. At CHM01 turn left (north) on a dirt road and go 2.0 miles and park at CHM02. Hike east through two low passes in the small Sawtooth Mountain Range. Head east across a valley and up to a low point on a ridge at CHM05. Then descend the other side and turn left (east) up a canyon and toward CHM06. Head up to a ridge top at CHM07 at about 2880 feet. Then descend and cross over several drainages to CHM08 at the base of the final chute up to the top. The route is 3.7 miles one-way with a gain of about 2500 feet and will require about 3 1/2 hours for the ascent. 3/04 RLC
