These waypoints were taken during a climb of Cerro Chirripo from Nov. 25-27,
2004.  The route was the main trail from San Gerardo de Rivas. Waypoint CHIR00
is the Roca Dura lodge by the soccer field and at the last bus stop.  This is
a good place to stay with good food.  For the climb walk east up the road and
turn right at CHIR01 and go down to a bridge.  The road continues up past another
lodge and finally reaches the trailhead (CHIR02).  From here it is 14.5KM up to
the main hut.  There are signs every kilometer.  At 4KM there is a sign at the
park boundary (CHIR04).  At CHIR05 the lower hut is reached with potable water
after about 7.5KM. There is another water source at CHIR08 at about 13.5KM.
CHIR09 is the main hut which has 60 beds and is at about 11,130ft. elevation.
From the hut head east on a good trail and climb over rock slabs at CHIR10.
There is a junction in Valle de Conejos at CHIR11.  Go left here.  Climb up to
a pass at CHIR12 where the summit of Chirripo will be visible if it is not cloudy.
Traverse along to another pass and sign at CHIR13.  Then go left up the ridge on
a steep path to the top.  There is a sign and register box at the summit which
is 3820 meters, 12,533ft.  12/04  RLC
