The GPS ignores this text when loading route. This is a route file for a climb of Cady Peak, highpoint of the Cady Mountains. Driving east from Barstow on Interstate 40, take the Hector Road exit and go right and then left onto the National Trails Highway that follows the Interstate on the south side. Drive east for 4.7 miles and turn left onto Pisgah Craters Road that soon goes north under the Interstate. If you are approaching from the east on I-40 this can be reached by exiting at Ludlow and driving west 13.1 miles on the National Trails Highway. On Pisgah Craters road go under the Interstate and then immediately turn right down off the pavement by a large tank (CADY00) and follow the dirt road west along the railroad tracks for one mile and turn right crossing the tracks (CADY01). Follow this fair road toward the mountains alongside power lines. The road goes over a pass by a microwave site and then descends. A high-clearance vehicle is best on this road since it has a lot of stones. At 5.4 miles from the railroad crossing you will cross a wash that can be used to start the hike. This is waypoint CADY02. In another half mile there is a better pullout by power line towers (CADY03) which allows one to drive a short distance north of the lines in open desert for camping. Hike from here north up the broad wash for 2.6 miles to a dry waterfall at CADY05. It is an easy climb up this to a fork where you stay right in the narrower canyon. Up further go left at CADY06 up loose, crumbly slopes to the ridge top at CADY07. The summit is then a short distance. This hike is 6.4 miles round-trip with a gain of 2100 feet. 1/06 RLC Map: Sleeping Beauty, 1:24,000, dated 1993.
