Located in the Nez Perce National Forest
Slate point has had several different lookout towers over the years. In 1931 a 75 ft. wood pole tower with 7 ft. cab was built. In 1948 a 41 ft. timber tower with L-4 style cab was built. In 1979 the cab was replaced with an R-6 structure. The lookout was staffed when we visited. This lookout is on the National Historic Lookout Register #798. Photo on August 21, 2019.
