This lookout is on the National Historic Lookout Register #1045. Photos taken June 14, 2006. Craig R. The peak was named due to a winter earthquake that caused saturated ground to slide down and create an earthen dam almost 100 feet high (about 1900). After the barrier forming Slide Lake gave way a residual pond remained for many years. The name first appeared on the USGS Redlands quad of 1901.
