Pilot Hill Lookout, El Dorado County, California, Elevation = 1869 ft.

On California State Land

Pilot Hill Lookout was in good condition when this photo was taken. The tower was built in 1985 as part of the Folsom Dam Project. It is operated by CalFire and may be staffed as needed. In the late 1990's the lookout had cameras to observe the area for fires, but these were removed by 2008. The structure fell into disrepair and the roof blew off in a storm. This lookout is on the National Historic Lookout Register #1065. Photo by Fred Johnson December 19, 2004.

Update: CalFire completed repairs and renovations and the tower reopened in June 2019, staffed entirely by volunteers working 6 to 12 hour shifts most days.
